So now that you’ve seen Captain America Civil War, discuss it
with your friends while enjoying a dish from the film.
This
dish is from the small but memorable scene between Vision (Paul Bettany) and
Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen). Vision is in the kitchen attempting to make a
meal for Wanda to “lift her spirits.” The dish is paprikash and, in the films,
is a meal originated from Wanda’s native country of Sekovia. The scene is very
touching as he tries to provide comfort and show affection while also secretly
detaining her to the Avenger’s Headquarters.
Setting
the scene in the kitchen around the preparation of a meal really creates the
feeling of a family. These extraordinary beings with their super powers choose
to live with each other not because they believe themselves superior to the
rest of the world, but because they are the only ones that can understand each other.
Vision, a synthetic being, and Wanda, a being with almost magical powers, are especially
unique because of their situations. While Wanda seems to shut herself off
because of the fear people have towards her, Vision tries to bond with her and
wants the world to see her as he sees her. This is truly a sign of the familial
love and dynamic which brings will heart, and eventual pain to the Avengers in Captain America Civil War.
Again, it is a small but touching
and memorable scene that just so happens to be centered around food. So if you
want to lift someone’s spirits try paprikash, which in our world originates
from the country of Hungary.
