Daredevil Inspired Chocolate Apples

When binge-watching the Netflix show Marvel’s Daredevil, try this easy to make handheld snack.

To make 4 of these delicious treats we will need the following:

5 apples (type of apple is up to you but I prefer red delicious apples)
4 wood sticks
2 cups of white chocolate discs (the red chocolate discs have a different consistency when melted)
1 bottle (2 fl oz) of red candy coloring (Chefmaster brand works best and regular food coloring will also make a consistency that won’t work)
1 small carving knife
1 regular chopping knife

First we will take 1 apple, (preferably the one least shaped like a head) and slice out the core. Be careful not to make too many cuts as the larger the chunks are the easier it will be to cut the horns.

Next, slice the chunks of the apple into sheets about ¼ inch thick.
From those sheets cut out triangles. These triangles will be the horns so they don’t have to have 3 equal sides. You will need 8 triangles, but I recommend cut as many as you can in case of errors.

Now we want to take a look at one of the remaining 4 apples. Pick one up and try to find the side that looks most like a face (Not too flat or too curved).

Once you find the side that will be used for the face, make 2 slight cuts about 1/5 from the top on either side of the face. Essentially you are looking for the brow of the face.

Now that you have your two slits, take a pair of your triangles and line them up with the slits. Using the triangles as guides, cut out a crevice. This crevice is where you will insert your triangle. Now insert the triangles deep enough so that they stay in place. You may need to shorten a side to create the right effect.

Repeat the steps for all of your remaining apples. Do not begin melting the chocolate until your apples are done.

Once the chocolate is done melting it will start to harden and you want to have the chocolate as melted as possible when you begin the pouring.

Melt the full 2 cups of chocolate at the same time. I recommend using a container that allows for pouring, rather than a bowl.

Now mix the red candy coloring with the chocolate. It’s about 2 tablespoons for the total 2 cups of chocolate. Mix with a stirring stick that you can throw away later.

If the color is not red enough then feel free to add more food coloring. Just make sure you have stirred everything together leaving no trace of the white.

This will cover 2 apples, so you will need to repeat the process once more.

Finally, lay out some parchment paper and pour the red melted chocolate over the apples. Use a spinning rotation motion with the apple to cover the whole apple. See the video below for the ideal way to do this.

Now you are ready to binge the best Marvel show ever!
